Betsy DeVos Turns Heads As She Makes An Appearance With The Rapper Known As Pitbull

A lot of people had to take check their hearing when they heard that Betsy DeVos had appeared with the rapper Pitbull at a charter school in Miami. What many might not know is that the charter school in question was founded by Pitbull. While the rapper is known for profane lyrics and a brash style, he also happens to be a supporter of charter schools. This happened to be Betsy DeVos’s third visit to schools in Florida as the Secretary of Education for the U.S.A., and along with the visit to the school that Pitbull created, she also visited a handful of other private and charter schools.

While most people have just become familiar with Betsy DeVos because she has suddenly been thrown into the limelight of politics, those who do know her know that she has been heavily involved with pushing for freedom of educational choice for a long time. What does freedom of educational choice mean for Americans? For Betsy, it means that every single family in the United States can choose where they want to send their kids to school. The problem, according to Mrs. DeVos, with the system as it is now is that there are millions upon millions of people being left out because they can’t afford to send their children to a private school or a charter school. Instead, they are forced to send them off to a school based on where they live.

Betsy DeVos believes that the notion of forcing kids to go to a school based on the zip code of where their home is located is an outdated notion. It hearkens back to days when there was no internet and when it made sense to send kids to the school that was nearest to them. She has talked about the fact that many families in the United States are forced to send their kids to schools that are failing, unsafe, and that do not provide the right kind of environment for them to learn in. She has fought for the rights of everyone and especially the economically challenged families that call America home.

What Betsy DeVos wants is for public funds to be able to be used to pay for the tuition of charter schools and private schools. This is real freedom, and she believes that the current system is not supporting the majority of American families. Not only has Betsy DeVos supported causes and political initiatives that would change this, but she has also donated a lot of her own money. She is the Chairman for the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation where she works to support the rights of Americans through charitable giving. She also donates her time as a member of many different boards. A few of these include Mars Hill Bible Church, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, and Kids Hope USA.

Betsy DeVos has been a reformer and fighter for those who are yearning for a change in the educational system in the United States for the majority of her life. As Secretary of Education, she is aiming to make the nation the kind of place where people can truly say they have freedom of educational choice.

How Dick DeVos Help Make Grand Rapids A Destination City

Dick DeVos has played a major role in Grand Rapid’s downtown economic development as a co-chair of the Grand Action committee, a role that he recently retired from to make way for the next generation of civic leaders. His philanthropy and leadership helped to change the Grand Rapids’ skyline and staunch suburban sprawl, bringing the Van Andel Arena and the DeVos Place Convention Center to downtown Grand Rapids. DeVos’s leadership also helped bring a sculpture garden, a newly renovated Civic Theater, a museum and more, making Grand Rapids a destination city for tourists.

Besides changing downtown Grand Rapids, DeVos changed the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. A pilot himself, DeVos lead the effort to bring Southwest airlines, a low-cost carrier, to the airport. He set up the Regional Air Alliance of West Michigan, an organization that stressed how important the airport was to West Michigan’s economic growth. The airport’s makeover and new service greatly benefited the community.

Once CEO of the Amway business that his father, Richard DeVos Sr., co-founded, DeVos is a well-known philanthropist and advocate school choice. He is currently president of the Windquest Group. Devos is also known for founding the West Michigan Aviation Academy at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. The tuition-free public charter high school gets teens ready for a career in aviation. While being a helicopter and a jet pilot as DeVos is a natural choice for many teens, the school stresses other careers as well, such as aerospace engineering and airplane maintenance.

DeVos, along with his wife, Betsy, created the Great Lakes Education Project to promote school choice. DeVos and his wife have both publicly stated that they feel that low-income parents should have a choice, as they did, when deciding where to send their children to school.

DeVos and his wife contribute to the community through the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation, which focuses on education, art and community improvements in West Michigan. Between 1989 and 2015, the foundation gave away $137.8, including scholarships and a generous $12.5 million to build the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. A graduate of Northwood University in Midland, Michigan, DeVos also has three honorary doctorates. He regularly donates to his alma mater, including buildings and scholarships.

In 1997, DeVos’ best selling book, Rediscovering American Values, came out. The book focuses on how people can apply honesty, fairness and other values in everything that they do.

Betsy DeVos’s Philanthropic Endeavors

Betsy DeVos is certainly a woman who has made many great accomplishments during her career. She currently serves in the prestigious role of United States Secretary of Education. Prior to that she held the elite position of Chair of Michigan’s Republican party for a lengthy six years. She has successfully managed political campaigns and political action committees. She also served as the chair person for the Windquest Group, a company she co-founded with her husband, Dick DeVos. The Windquest Group specializes in investing in technology, clean energy and manufacturing solutions.

Betsy DeVos is known as a reformer. She is also known as a woman who gets things done. Yet, when most people think of her accomplishments they look towards the political sector or her career. I recently discovered that she is also a leader in the philanthropic world. Betsy DeVos states that stewardship was distilled in her thanks to the values of her parents. It has always been something she includes in her priorities.

Betsy and her husband, Dick DeVos, have a foundation called the Dick & Betsy DeVos Family Foundation that consistently donates millions of dollars to a wide variety of charities and non-profits.

Much of the Foundation’s giving centers around Betsy DeVoses passion for education reform. Education reform has been the cornerstone of her push for better public schools and her giving reflects her personal stake in bringing that change about.

While she contributes to many different educational non-profits, she is passionate about one local school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The schools provides a Christian based education and is called The Potter’s School. She and her family found the school when they were looking for a grade school to send their own children to. She and her husband were touched by the outpouring of hard work and Christian values that the school provided and decided to become donors to the school. The two provide a variety of scholarships to children whose families could not afford the tuition for the school. They are currently the school’s largest donors and have supported a variety of programs to give students a great education. Many of the school’s students come from low income families. The funded scholarships allow these students to have access to a Christian-based education.

Betsy DeVos is passionate about giving children and their families school choice and she has chosen to designate personal funds to support that effort. She also works through political avenues to provide a wider variety of choices for students. This is especially important in low income areas where the schools within certain districts may not offer the highest quality of education.
